Communication in Engineering: Future, Remnant of the Past?

Today, I see a lot of negative views in university about non-engineering courses. The typical targets of these remarks are History and Political Science, and last but not least, English. For most students, these topics are not relevant to them and their degrees, so most skip the classes, don't do their work on time, and grow a hatred towards their professors, especially when there is a huge course load that jeopardizes their other grades.

How am I Doing this Week? What do I Plan to do?

For this week, I had a lot of intensive classes, the most demanding of which has to be English 210, where I had to work on my resume, job application, and a website/portfolio. So far, I am not doing great. While I am trying to build my CV, it is very rudimentary, missing a lot of experiences I had, and not very pertinent as I would have wanted it to be.

What is a Problem?

Last week, we met with Dr. Reza and discussed the importance of finding and solving engineering problems. Before class, I had two different expectations. As a former mechanical engineering student, I have met with Dr. Reza outside of class to discuss with him my plans for the major as well as research opportunities. I was also familiar with the horror stories about his classes from my mechanical engineering friends, but this didn't dissuade me from going into the lecture with an open mind.

"Effective Leadership Creates Leaders, not Followers"

We recently met up with Ms. Lana for a presentation about leadership and working in groups. We went through multiple activities and leadership concepts, most of which I was familiar with since Ms. Lana taught a similar course in my ILM certification, though the ILM course was more detailed, and this course focused more on the entire team. While this means that I don't have a lot to write about, as visiting the Eiffel Tower is more marvelous the first time, I still got to refresh on my knowledge of leadership.
