My First Job

8 min read

This semester marked a moment in history; I managed to get the student worker position in the department of student affairs. While to most it doesn't sound like a big achievement, in the past the DSA helped me in every moment of need, and I've been blessed to work with these staff members in this department. Ms. Sabina, Ms. Janan, Ms. Stephanie and finally Mr. Miguel all helped me through my journey and Texas A&M at Qatar. First, I would love to thank miss Janan since I couldn't navigate the QID system without her help, she made the process so smooth I almost was not involved in it. I would love to thank Ms. Stephanie for offering me the opportunity to travel abroad to main campus as well as helping me with my process for TSRE. Finally, when times were tough Mr. Miguel and Ms. Sabina were always there to help me financially, especially when I was hospitalized because of pesticides.

While I love every part of the job, what I love most is that I get creative freedom when it comes to the posts and videos that are submitted to the Qatar aggies Instagram group. While this doesn't seem that important having the freedom to film on my own camera to edit on my own time It helps me to develop my passion for image and video editing. While I started editing images more than five years ago and editing videos about two years ago, I could not further my skills since I was busy with academics. Now that I have got to do something that I enjoy and have the support of the other student staff I was able in the span of a month to exponentiate my experience in video and image editing.

Finally, I'd love to talk more about the other students in the DSA, as they have been nothing but lovely to me ever since I started working. I was able to socialize more, especially in one of the hardest semesters for all majors. The main reason why I applied for this position and not other positions that were available is that I can see the direct impact of my work on the other students not just making events smoother, but also in helping to foster I campus for everyone and give back to the community that never turned its back on me.
